no peas please

This week we tried peas and let me tell you we do not like peas!!! Landry will eat about 3 bites and then start gagging. Finley (the household drama queen) doesn't even get a small taste and it try to puke everywhere. I read that it takes an average of 7 days for babies to develop tastes for new foods, so we've continued to try and feed a bite or two everyday since Friday with the same reaction. I even tried mixing it with their cereal and got the same results. So I don't know if its the taste, texture or what. Maybe they'll warm up eventually. Here are some pictures we snapped.

Daddy thought they just looked gross

First reaction, not bad

Final Verdict, gross mommy

Eager for a bite

Not so good

Priceless. YUCK!

We're thinking pears or apples this week. Hopefully they will get a better reaction.

Okay so it's actual no catchy acronym. I just though I would do a quick update post of our experience with solids so far. I decided I would introduce one new food a week and we normally do it on Fridays or Saturdays, that way if their happen to be an adverse reaction Dalyn would be here for back up. So far we've introduced Bananas and Sweet Potatoes. They had previously had peaches, as our pedi gave us an ok to add a little bit to their cereal. We first introduced sweet potatoes on October 9 and then bananas on October 16. Here were the reactions we got. . . .

We were also feeding in their bouncers as you can see, however the more they kick, the more they bounce and our messes were just growing and growing, so I decided it was time they move to their highchairs and they really seem to love them. I also thought I would share pics of that new experience too.

Next up this week, we're thinking peas. YUM!!

Crawling By . . . .

That was my original thought.

But the way this little girl is moving, we may be looking at Thanksgiving.

She is definitely a mover.  This isn't the best example, my videographer skills stink. Every time I reach for the camera all evidence of anything quickly stops. But you get the idea a little. Hopefully, I'll get a better one soon.

Ladies & Gentlemen . . .

We have a roller!! Or make that two rollers. That's right my little man can now roll from back to belly and belly to back. Although very awkward and not nearly as graceful as his sisters roll, he can do it. I've yet to catch a video or picture but as soon as I do I'll be sure to post it. It makes me so proud and absolutely amazed at how quickly they are growing and changing.

YouTube Video

It's a hungry, very impatient baby!!

Please excuse my video while feeding skills, neither are very good done at the same time.

Blogtober the 13th .::.A Family Of Sorts.::.

So after being on this blog for a good while and going through infertility with so many of you who now have babies I got to thinking about everything this blog had provided me. When I started it, it took me a while to really open up about what we were going through. And I started it without knowing if anyone would care and if anyone would read it. Then as I got more into the blogging world I realized that I wasn't the only one and my situation was far from as bad and it could be.  I started looking back over some of my previous posts and also some of the previous posts from blogs i follow and I realized that we've become a family of sorts.

Now most of you I've never even talked to but I feel like if you put us in a room together we could talk for hours. So I got to thinking how neat it would be to meet everyone. I know I live very close to some of your so a random weekend get-together wouldn't be so far out of the question but then I know others of you live so far away. How neat would it be to have a MoM after infertility get-away?!? Even more interesting, getting all of our kids together in one place? Talk about overload for people who can't get enough of multiples anyways.

Either way I mainly just wanted to thank you all. For sharing infertility. For sharing the downs. For sharing the ups. For sharing pregnancy. For sharing motherhood. And for continuing to share. I feel very fortunate to have contact with you all.

finley & landry {five months}

Oh my sweet babies!! From four to five months I feel like you guys are growing out of being babies. Your movers and shakers and talkers and rollers. Sometimes I wish life had a pause button because I feel like I can't savor every moment like I'd like. And although I miss you being newborns I love watching you grow, change and learn.

Blogtober the 11th .::.Mish mosh.::.

So I've decided I probably won't be making my own baby food. As much as I'd love to, I just don't know that I have the time I'd like to be able to devote. Since I've decided that I have been researching organic baby food. I ran across an article from mayo clinic saying there was no proof that organic was any healthier than regular food. So it left me wondering if I should spend the extra $ on organic. I think out of all the brands I researched I really like Earths Best. They seem to have the most variety, which I REALLY like. All in all with the several coupons I have its not to much more expensive than regular ol' Gerber. And no matter whether its really any 'healthier' I feel better about it! The other thing I really like about Earth's Best is on their website is a schedule of sorts on how and when to introduce foods. So I'll keep you guys updated on if I like it or not.

Also, we've recently been having a bed wetting problem. LOL I know you may ask, already? Well for about the last two weeks the babies schedule has started to change some. They have started going down about 8:30-9:00 and have been sleeping until about 7:30. They had been going down about 7 and doing a sleepy feed around 10:30-11. Well, now that they are sleeping about 11 hours at night Landry has been pretty consistently peeing out of his diapers. Obviously, I don't want to change him half way through the night and wake him up but I don't know what to do. We never have the problem during the day so I know its only because him diapers can't hold that much. He's currently in size 2 and they fit him perfectly, so should we upgrade to size 3 at night? Or should we switch him to a diaper that's strictly for the night time? Do they even have night time diapers is size 2? Have any of you ever had this problem? If so what did you do for a solution?

Lastly, tomorrow I have 5 month olds. I know I swear each month that goes by I question where is time going. But, really, where is it going? I'm working on their 5 month post now. Although each month that passes makes getting pictures of two constantly moving babies impossible.

Blogtober the 10th .::.10.10.10.::.

No clever post here. Since my babies turn 5 mos old this week I actually thought I would share a picture of our 'other' babies. Our fur babies. They use to be all we had. They use to be our lives. We use to buy them excessive stuff at petsmart, similar to our obsession with BRU now. Needless to say, they've taken a way back seat since the babies arrive. Of course we still try to give them as much attention as possible but sometimes I go to bed wondering if I even took a second to pet one of them all day. Sad! I know. They love the babies though and I think in a few short months we will have 2 babies and 3 dogs that are living in perfect harmony. Until then and before you call the humane society, could this life be really all that bad . . .

Do I hear jealous barks from doggies everywhere?? LOL!!!

See how bad he has it?

Oh and her too

Blogtober the 9th .::.A Struggle.::.

Of all the things I thought I 'might' struggle with being a mom I definitely never expected this one. And had never really discussed or admitted it until a friend in Knoxville with twins mentioned she struggled with it a lot with her kids.

I find that I constantly comparing my kiddos to each other and even those babies around their age.

Now, our doctor has assured me several times that even though they were born several weeks early, they are still hitting all the milestones they should as almost 5 month olds. But it started early, Landry started smiling in response WAY before Finley. He also laughed out loud before she did. Now, she is rolling around like crazy and he's yet to show any interest in rolling. So I'm constantly worrying if there's a reason he's doing it and she's not or that she's doing it and he's not. I struggle to remind myself that they are two DIFFERENT, INDIVIDUAL babies. I constantly try to remind myself that I'm very lucky they were so healthy from birth and have continued to be. And that every baby is different and will progress at their own rate.

Now I find myself questioning, will this continue for the rest of their lives? What happens when one crawls before the other? Walks before the other? Talks before the other? Can say their ABCs before the other? See where I'm going? It could get obsessive.

But Dalyn and I have talked many times about allowing the babies to be who they want and become their own individuals. And I think part of that is allowing them to grow and develop at their own pace. So I try to keep my stressing to a minimum and know they'll learn at their own pace. They are definitely two very different little people already!

Blogtober the 8th .::.Mommy Questions.::.

So I have a few questions for all the mommies out there. . .

1) When did you start you baby on fruits & veggies? Our pedi told us sometime between the 5th and 6th month.

2) When you started how did you incorporate that into their formula/bfeeding schedule? Like should we use a full feeding for solid or just do like 1/2 solid, 1/2 formula? We feed a little bit of cereal now and we feed about 1-2 tbsp of cereal and then do our normal bottle right after.

3) Anybody make their own baby food? Pros? Cons? Brands you used if you didn't make your own? If you did make you own and have twins I'd love to chat!

4) Now that it's getting cooler here I'm starting to have a 'dressing the baby' dilemma. Someone once told me 'dress them like your dressed. If your comfortable, their comfortable.' someone else once told me 'to add a layer to whatever we were dressed like.' Any hints, suggestions, tips? Keep in mind I live almost on the coast in eastern nc. So right now temps are like low-mid 70s during the day and high 40s-50s at night.

5) Along the same lines, how the heck do you keep socks on a baby?

6) Have any of you used sleep sacks? Now that the babies are moving around I have a hard time keeping a blanket on then at night.

I think that's all I had or at least all I can remember :-)! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. The weather is beautiful here.

Blogtober the 7th .::.Rolling, Rolling, Rolling.::.

Both of our babies have been able to roll from belly to backs for a little while. Well now this proud momma has to say that Finley has mastered rolling back to belly and belly to back. Which I guess makes her semi-mobile. We set up a baby play area in our living room because now that she knows how to roll, she's trying to roll out of everything. Its funny because I start her at one end and she rolls to the other and then I start her back at the other end again. I got a video on the first day that she learned to roll. Landry is trying really hard but he just can't quite figure out how to tuck his arm. I don't think it will be long though.
I'm trying to get a video of her continuous roll.

Blogtober the 5th .::.Tuesday Temptation.::.

If you've ever been or lived in Nashville, TN you know a staple is Loveless Cafe.
One thing you may know about Loveless is the 'Biscuit Lady'
The biscuits are divine. Period.

But recently I ran across another recipe from Loveless Cafe and knew I couldn't go wrong. . .

Loveless Cafe Pork Chops
Serves 6

~ 2 tablespoons of canola oil( or whatever oil you prefer)
~ Six 6-ounce boneless center-cut pork chops, trimmed of any fat (Get the thick chops for more a more tender juicy bite)
~ 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
~ 1 tablespoon red-wine vinegar
~ 2 tablespoons light-brown sugar
~ 1 tablespoon Worcestershire or soy sauce
~ 1 teaspoon garlic salt

~ Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown pork chops on all sides, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
~ Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, stir together mustard, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic   salt with 1/3 cup water. Pour over pork chops. Reduce heat, cover, and cook until tender, about 1 hour.
~ Transfer pork to a serving platter.
~ Raise heat to medium-high and cook sauce until thickened, about 5 minutes.
~ Pour sauce over pork chops and enjoy!

I think this recipe would also be great with chicken if you don't like pork.

I got this recipe of Easy Meals for Moms. That's where I find a good deal of my recipes so be sure to stop by and check it out!

Blogtober the 4th .::.Introduction.::.

 So I ran across a blog that was doing a 'blogtober' where they post everyday for the month of October. Clearly since its October 4 I'm a few days late but I thought what a neat idea it would be. I mean I've tried to blog as much as I can since the babies were born but sometimes there just isn't time. And sometimes when there is time I'd rather be doing something else. I can blog from my phone so its easy to do it anywhere, anytime. So no excuses for October I'm going to blog at least once a day. . . .

Who can't get enough of these sweet cheeks??? Mommy!!!

I want to go to the pumpkin patch this weekend but we got almost 25" of rain since last Saturday. Yes, you read that correctly 25". Tropical storm Nicole surprised everyone with insane amounts of rainfall. So needless to say it was a little soggy here. Oh and it also turned really cold, really fast and we had no cold weather clothes washed and ready. Hopefully we'll get to go next weekend. I can't pass up adorable pumpkin pictures of my munchkins.
